Top Gun points mostly reward showing up — every tournament adds points, so a team that plays a lot climbs even if it loses. This rating instead asks: given who each team played, by how many runs do they tend to win or lose? Beating a strong team counts for more than beating a weak one, and it's all on one scale regardless of state or points season.

Each dot is the average team in that class, on the same scale as the ratings (runs better or worse than an average 10U team). The further right, the stronger.

Class averages from 10 A, 11 AA, 59 B, 138 BB rated teams. Individual teams vary a lot — a strong BB team can out-rate a weak B team.
How the rating is calculated
Model. Every game's run margin is explained as rating(team A) − rating(team B), solved for all 257 teams at once (a ridge-regularised least-squares "Massey" rating, 1063 games). Each team's rating = its class average + its own adjustment.
Few games → pulled toward class average. A team's own adjustment is shrunk toward zero (a Bayesian prior), so a 4–0 weekend against weak teams doesn't vault anyone to #1. The ± is the uncertainty (one standard deviation). Teams with fewer than 4 games are listed without a rank.
Recency. A game's weight halves every 21 days, so current form counts most. Margins are capped at 12 runs. These settings were picked automatically as the ones that best predicted the held-out games.
Win chance vs the Bombers uses the rating gap and the typical game-to-game spread (±4.6 runs). SOS is strength of schedule: the average rating of opponents faced.
Caveats. Only Top Gun games are counted, not other associations. Teams that mostly play in one area are compared through the few teams that cross over, so cross-region comparisons are less certain. Top Gun's all-star showcase squads are excluded.
